SUMMARY:ANZIAM Annual Conference 2021
DESCRIPTION:ANZIAM Annual Conference 2021 (Virtual)\n Sunday 31 January 20
21 to Friday 5 February 2021\n The current version of the conference book
let is now available (current as of 30.01.2021):\nDownload the current ver
sion of the conference booklet\n The virtual venue landing page for the
conference is now available:\nPlease visit the virtual venue here!\n The
annual ANZIAM conference promotes the advancement and dissemination of kno
wledge in all areas of applied and industrial mathematics. We encourage HD
R students\, postdoctoral researchers\, academic staff and researchers acr
oss government and industry to attend and share their latest research!\n
In 2021\, in light of the uncertainty that 2020 has cast over the near fut
ure for Australia\, the world and particularly long distance travel and gl
obal health\, the conference will be a virtual event running from the even
ing of Sunday 31 January until the afternoon of Friday 5 February. We wil
l be running the conference through a highly immersive virtual conference
environment hosted on the unique web-based platform gather.town. We have o
rganised a virtual conference venue running on this platform which is cust
omised and maintained by Virtual Chair to provide the most integrated and
natural conference experience possible with live talks\, seamlessly connec
ted social events and networking opportunities\, an integrated schedule to
tell (and show) you where you need to be\, technical support\, and most i
mportantly the opportunity for discussions to begin as spontaneously and n
aturally as at in-person events.\n If you have not yet registered\, please
do so here:\n Please register here!\n Live plenary invited talks will c
over diverse topics such as dynamical systems\, computational mathematics\
, mathematical biology\, fluid mechanics\, and optimisation. The technical
program will feature oral presentations in parallel sessions. Participant
s are encouraged to share graphical abstracts for advertising their talks
and having discussions in a dedicated foyer and there will also be an opti
on of sending in a pre-recorded version of your talk to share at watch par
ties timetabled to ensure that attendees from Western Australia to New Zea
land and even around the world can find a suitable time to engage with the
  presentations.\n Follow @ANZIAMnews and #ANZIAM2021 for updates!\nWe wan
t you to stay in touch with us so that we can guide you through the proces
s of the virtual conference. If you have questions you can send them to AN
ZIAM2021@gmail.com or join us on Slack where you can talk to organisers an
d other attendees in real time.\n Invited speakers\n \n Dr Rachelle Bin
 ny\, Landcare Research\, New Zealand\n Prof Linda Cummings\, New Jersey I
nstitute of Technology\n Prof Dr Gabriele Eichfelder\, Technische Univers
itaet Ilmenau\n Prof Larry Forbes\, University of Tasmania\n Prof Nathan
Kutz\, University of Washington\n Prof Mat Simpson\, QUT\n Prof Ian Tur
 ner\, QUT\n Dr Cecile Viboud\, National Institutes of Health\n \n Virtu
 al conference venue\n gather.town is a web-based video conferencing/netwo
rking platform. Before the conference you will be issued with a URL to gai
n admission to the conference venue. When you log in you will control a tw
o-dimensional customisable avatar. This is you. The avatar is embedded in
a two-dimensional world reminiscent of 1990 role playing games. This worl
d will be a fully functional conference venue complete with\n \n a lobby
with tables\, TVs\, a monitored help desk etc.\,\n a foyer where you can
have discussions and read graphical abstracts for the upcoming talks\, le
ading to\n a number of seminar rooms for parallel and pre-recorded sessio
ns\,\n a large plenary room\,\n a versatile presentation space for panel
discussions as well as cooking classes\,\n a collaboration space configu
red for co-working\, activities and games\, and\n features made possible
only in the digital world such as hyperspace which can be used for fast na
vigation through the centre.\n \n\n You will navigate the two-dimensiona
l conference centre using just the arrow keys on your keyboard. As you enc
ounter other registrants in the corridors of the centre\, a video and audi
o feed will fade in and out based on your proximity which gives the illusi
on of 'bumping into' people spontaneously. You can also do other fancy thi
ngs like generate a path between you and any attendee present so you do no
t have to go looking for people. Some items in the environment interact wi
th you on proximity and others require you simply to press "x" on your key
board to interact. In this way\, the environment is configured to integrat
e with other environments such as zoom. We will also have access to a dedi
cated server to provide a smooth experience.\n If you want to explore the
software ahead of the conference\, a free demo is available at gather.tow
 n. If you are concerned about having to learn the technical aspects of the
software\, Gather is designed to be intuitive and to replicate the feelin
g of a real conference as close as possible from your home office. Before
the conference begins\, on Sunday 31st January\, we will be running a guid
ed tour and tutorial of the virtual venue. You can also read further deta
ils on our conference philosophy.\n Virtual social events\n We want ANZI
AM2021 to be as enjoyable as possible under the constraints of a virtual e
nvironment and we are excited to invite registrants to a number of formal
and informal events that we have arranged.\n Indigenous Australian cookin
g: damper and pavlova workshops\n We are very pleased to be able to offer
social damper and pavlova cooking classes within our virtual environment
with Chef Nornie Bero from Mabu Mabu | Indigenous Catering\, which is a To
rres Strait Islander owned and run business based in Melbourne. In these w
orkshops you will join with other registrants and cook these culturally ic
onic dishes with indigenous traditional flavors. These workshops are optio
nal and can be booked at registration for just $15 each. If you are consid
ering joining this unique virtual experience\, you should read the details
provided by Chef Nornie. As we need to plan this well in advance\, it is
important that you observe the due dates for booking and ordering ingredie
nt kits.\n\nMedal ceremony and social event\n It is a tradition at ANZIAM
to hold a celebration of our achievements as a society and present presti
gious medals. Usually this celebration takes the form of a formal dinner t
he day before the end of the conference. It is not possible to have a form
al dinner in a virtual conference but we will not let coronavirus get in t
he way of us sharing this important time together!\n On the night of Thur
sday 4th February\, we will hold a virtual medal ceremony in the conferenc
e venue. This medal ceremony will be open to every registrant to attend li
ve. At the end of formal proceedings there will be time to mingle and cong
ratulate medal winners. We encourage you to BYO drinks to celebrate our an
nual achievements in a difficult year. After this time\, we will reconvene
for a special virtual social event which will be professionally hosted an
d designed for a good time\, lots of laughs and a chance to mingle\, chat
and have fun. This post-medal social event is optional and costs just $15
to take part. \n Please read more about the post-medal social event.\n \
nWomen in applied mathematics panel\nThe Women in Applied Mathematics Pane
l will be held under the umbrella of the Women in Mathematics Special Inte
rest Group (WIMSIG) of the Australian Mathematical Society from 12.30-2pm
(AEDT) on 2nd February. It is free to all registrants\, regardless of gend
er or membership of WIMSIG. The purpose of the panel is to celebrate women
in the mathematical sciences and to support women\, and particularly earl
y career researchers\, to enter and establish careers in mathematics. Come
along and hear about the careers of female applied mathematicians\, and d
iscuss issues concerning women in mathematics.\nThe panel will be chaired
by Professor Yvonne Stokes - School of Mathematical Sciences\, The Univers
ity of Adelaide\nThe panellists are:\n\nAssociate Professor Hamideh Anjoms
hoa - Enterprise Research Fellow\, School of Mathematics and Statistics\,
The University of Melbourne & Research Scientist and Technical lead\, IBM
Research-Australia\nDr Rachelle Binny - Mathematical Biology and Ecology R
 esearcher\, Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research\, New Zealand\nProfessor An
toinette Tordesillas - School of Mathematics and Statistics & School of Ea
rth Sciences\, The University of Melbourne\nDr Cecile Viboud - Senior Rese
arch Scientist\, Division of International Epidemiology and Population Stu
dies of the Fogarty International Centre\, National Institutes of Health\,
USA\n\n Other formal events\n We will have a range of free events that
you are welcome to participate in. Many of these simply require you to let
us know in the registration form that you wish to attend.\n \n On Sunday
31st January\, a student fun night is planned. There will be activities a
nd a chance to meet fellow applied mathematics students from around Austra
lia\, New Zealand and the rest of the world. This is free for all students
registering for ANZIAM2021. Please contact ANZIAM student representative
Lachlan Burton for any enquiries.\n An LGBTIQA+ and allies social gatheri
ng. We will hold this event on Thursday around afternoon tea time (AEDT).\
n The Mathematical Biology Special Interest Group workshop\, which is tra
ditionally held on the Friday after the conference\, will be held on the f
ollowing Monday (since ANZIAM will take the extra day this year). Thanks t
o generous sponsorship by the Special Emphasis Year in Biological Dynamics
from Melbourne University's School of Mathematics and Statistics\, regist
ration for this event is completely free for all who register for ANZIAM20
 21. If you wish to attend the workshop without coming to ANZIAM2021\, then
a $5 fee will be requested. This event will take place within the ANZIAM2
021 virtual conference centre. Please contact workshop co-organiser Stuart
Johnston for any enquiries.\n \n Informal networking and social opportu
nities\n In addition to our formal social events\, we have a number of in
formal activities\n \n We will have a collaboration room designed purely
for co-working\, casual interaction and fun. This space will have dedicat
ed working and chatting spaces\, integrated games and other features which
make it a great place to meet friends and coworkers.\n A friendly chess
tournament will be run and a small prize given to the winner. The tourname
nt will be scheduled. If you wish to participate\, you just need to let us
know your intention on the registration form.\n We wish you could have j
oined us on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria this year. In lieu of giv
ing you the opportunity to visit the penguins at nearby Phillip Island\, w
e will be running an evening live streaming of the penguins coming to shor
e at Phillip Island with commentary. If this suits you\, please join us i
n the virtual lobby and feel free to bring children (this also applies to
many of our social activities).\n We will have plenty of dedicated free t
ime for you to interact and network at the virtual venue. You may use this
to catch up with people or catch up with your duties that come with stayi
ng at home for a conference. Flexibility is important to us as we acknowle
dge that committing to 5 continuous full days from home is not possible fo
r many. That being said\, we want to facilitate and encourage connectednes
s for our community in this isolating time.\n \nANZIAM Annual General Mee
ting\n The 2021 AGM will be held on February 2nd 2021 at 4pm ADST. The age
nda can be downloaded here (PDF\, 2 MB).\n Registration and abstract subm

Nornie Bero\n\nWe're super excited to be offering an online indigeneous c
ooking experience through Mabu Mabu | Indigenous Catering as part of ANZIA
M2021!\nMabu Mabu is a Torres Strait Islander owned and run business with
an emphasis on using fresh\, seasonal and native ingredients to create bea
utiful dishes that bring people together. Mabu Mabu is a term from the Tor
res Strait that translates to 'help yourself'. Traditionally\, a Mabu Mabu
is a banquet\, shared table or big family meal. It's how we like to enjoy
food on the islands: surrounded by the people we love.\nWe will be offeri
ng two different workshops with Nornie Bero\, the head chef and owner of M
abu Mabu. Originally from Mer Island in the Torres Strait\, Nornie has bee
 n a professional chef for over 20 years.\n\nHow will the workshops run?\nT
hese workshops are group\, virtual\, cooking classes. We are charging just
$15 to participate in a workshop. You may choose from the Damper workshop
or the Pavlova workshop or decide you would like to participate in both.
Each workshop will involve up to 40 of your fellow registrants. You will m
eet with Chef Nornie and she will walk you through the cooking process as
a group connected via video and audio feeds. \nThe workshop will take one
hour. We cannot guarantee times for this event but in the registration for
m for ANZIAM2021 you will see options to indicate your ideal time of day (
these times are in Melbourne time – AEDT or GMT+11). You will be placed
in the workshop with the closest time to your designated time which has av
ailability. We will be booking these workshops as registrations come in an
d will consider your time zone in assigning you to a workshop (you will no
t be assigned to a workshop starting before 8am or after 8pm your time\, u
nless you indicate that you would prefer this). If you have special dietar
y requirements\, the recipes below offer suggestions for substitute ingred
ients\, or you can contact Mabu Mabu directly to ask about your options. \
nCan my household get involved? The workshops are good activities to do wi
th family and friends at home. The charge of $15 dollars covers a single r
egistrant to connect to the workshop. You can have as many people on the o
ther side of the webcam as you like. We are here to have fun.\nWhat will I
need? What's in the workshop kits?:\nYou will need to be in a kitchen so
we recommend that you have a laptop so that you can interact from within
the kitchen. The ingredients and the equipment you need to bring to your w
orkshop is detailed in the following sections. It is important to note tha
t some of the ingredients are not your typical cupboard staples. We will b
e cooking with native Australian ingredients which may be difficult for yo
u to find\, especially if you are not in Australia. In the registration p
rocess\, you will be asked if you want to add 1 or more kits for your work
shop. These kits are sold by Mabu Mabu. We will order these on your behalf
and have them delivered to you if you are anywhere in Australia or New Ze
aland. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee delivery to other countries. Thes
e kits cost $35 dollars for the Damper kit and $45 dollars for the Pavlova
kit which cover the premium dry ingredients required for the respective r
ecipes and the delivery. We can only offer this through the registration p
rocess if you register before 18th December 2020 to give enough time for d
elivery. If you have the kits\, you just need to purchase the other ('stan
dard' and/or perishable) ingredients in the recipes from your local superm
arket. Important: to have the kits delivered\, we will obviously need to h
ave your postal address. Please make sure your profile includes this on th
e registration site (as it will not demand this from you otherwise).\n\nCa
n I join the workshops if I register later than 18th December 2020 or I am
from overseas?:\nThe short answer is yes. The long answer is\, you will h
ave to register by the latest before 15th January 2021 to be included in t
he workshops to give us a chance to book Nornie. If you miss the chance to
order the kits\, the detailed ingredient list shows you what you must sou
rce elsewhere for each of the workshops. You might struggle to find these
ingredients if you do not live in Australia and so Mabu Mabu has provided
also ubiquitous alternatives that may be used to substitute without losing
the flavor profile. If you come from overseas\, be aware that it is likel
y that most registrants will likely want workshops to take place after the
talks for the day (AEDT)\, but there is scope for us to make one or two e
arlier workshops if the demand is there for it.\nDamper workshop:\nIn this
session\, Nornie will make a variety of dampers in Torres Strait Islander
style - wrapped in banana leaves and baked with pumpkin\, wattleseed and
saltbush varieties. She'll share tips on how to get the perfect damper sof
tness\, and where to source ingredients.\nTo cook along with Nornie\, part
icipants can purchase a damper kit\, which includes the dry ingredients\,
Australian Indigenous ingredients\; wattleseed and saltbush\, banana leave
s\, and a recipe card. Please also read the additional required ingredien
ts or substitutions and equipment below. To make more than one damper\, pl
ease double or triple the flour and butter.\nIngredients required (items i
ncluded in the kit are in bold):\n\n3 cups self raising flour (or gluten-f
ree self-raising flour)\n4 x 30cm Sheets of Banana Leaves (can substitute
for baking paper)\n1 tbs Wattleseed (can substitute for other nutty spice)

p:\nIn a Mabu Mabu twist on the classic Australian dessert\, this workshop
will lead participants in a cooking demonstration making a delicious full
-sized pavlova full of Australian Indigenous flavours of wattleseed\, stra
wberry gum and lemon myrtle. Nornie will share tips on how to get the perf
ect pavlova crust and soft gooey middle\, and how to make a strawberry gum
cream with a quick lemon myrtle jam topping.\nTo cook along with Nornie\,
participants can purchase a pavlova kit\, which includes a jar each of wa
ttleseed cocoa powder\, lemon myrtle sugar and strawberry gum sugar. Pleas
e also read the additional required ingredients or substitutions and equip
ment below.\nIngredients for Pavlova (items included in the kit are in bol

 to whisk eggs)\nOven tray\nBaking paper\n\n\n\nAny further questions can b
e directed to Mark Flegg.\nReturn to the main conference page.\n\n\nOur vi
rtual conference strategy\n\nVirtual conferences face a number of challeng
es. Greatest amongst these are accommodating and engaging registrants from
a range of time zones and providing conditions conducive to networking an
d sharing your research. We take these challenge very seriously and have i
mplemented various changes to improve on the average virtual conference ex
perience.\n\nThe ANZIAM conference will take place over an extra day than
normal and be spread out over a longer day. This is to ensure that the den
sity of content does not overwhelm you as you sit at your computer all day
and also try to juggle your lives at home (since you will not be at a ded
icated exotic location).\nAs ANZIAM is an Australia and New Zealand commun
ity\, the formal live conference presentations are programmed between 9.30
am and 8pm AEDT. The venue is available 24 hours and before and after the
formal proceedings we will run watch parties of talks from the other end o
f the day so that you may watch talks that would otherwise be at inconveni
ent times.\nYour talks will be scheduled with your home time zone consider
ed. We strongly recommend if you are from fringe time zones (especially in
ternational speakers) that you prepare a pre-recorded version of your talk
. This is so that we can schedule your talk at an appropriate time and the
n show your pre-recorded version at watch parties at the other end of the
day. Information on how to provide pre-recorded talks will be provided.\nP
lenaries will be scheduled at a time appropriate for Australia and New Zea
land but at a reasonable time for the speaker. We will encourage all plena
ry speakers to pre-record so that everyone can enjoy them.\nWe strongly en
courage all speakers to provide a graphical abstract\, in the form of a po
ster or just a graphical advertisement for your talk. The graphical abstra
cts will be automatically displayed before and after you will present to g
ive a chance for registrants to preview before the talk but also to stimul
ate discussion between talks in the foyer. If you do not provide a graphic
al abstract\, a plain default one will be uploaded based on your normal ab
stract to help registrants preview the next session of talks.\n\nReturn to
the main conference page.\n\n\nPost-medal ceremony social event\n\nThe pr
esentation of medals is one of the most important traditions of the ANZIAM
annual meetings. Under normal circumstances\, we have this celebration ov
er a formal dinner and have plenty of laughs and bond together as a commun
ity. Since this year we will be holding a virtual conference\, it is impor
tant that we have a special\, enjoyable evening planned to live up to the
ANZIAM tradition.\nWe will be holding a 'Big remote EXPO' night of casual
games hosted by Bananalife\, a Brisbane-based company specialising in team
building and entertaining events. \nThe medal ceremony:\nThe medal ceremon
y will take place late afternoon AEDT on Thursday 4th February within our
Gather virtual conference centre. Everyone registered for ANZIAM2021 is we
lcome and encouraged to attend this event.\nWe encourage you to bring a dr
ink with you to the medal ceremony and raise it with us in celebration of
the achievements of members of our community. \nAfter the formal proceedin
gs\, there will be time to mingle and chat. This is a good time to congrat
ulate medal winners and catch up with that one person you have been meanin
g to talk with all week. Shortly thereafter the social event will begin fo
r those that have registered.\nThe social: \nThe post-medal ceremony socia
l event will cost each registrant $15.\nYou will be given a url and here y
ou will have the chance to mingle in any way you see fit in a specially de
signed platform for moving in and out of conversations. You will be linked
to a team and one of many hosted game rooms where you will play laid back
casual games and have a good laugh. If you don't wish to play\, you can j
ust sit back and watch or just chat with people.\nThe hosts have expertise
in engaging people and driving the night forward. Furthermore\, the activ
ities are constantly moving and highly inclusive to keep you engaged and h
aving a good time for the entire time.\nSince we need to book the hosts fo
r each of the game sessions\, we will need to know numbers in advance and
so registration for this event is due 15th January 2021.\nWhat you will ne
ed if you sign up for the social event (mostly that which is required for
the conference venue itself):\n\nHeadphones and microphone (absolutely nec
essary)\nA computer (not a phone or tablet) with a webcam\nA place to enjo
y yourself where you can make noise\nA good internet connection (necessary
for the whole conference)\nChrome or Firefox browser\nTurn off any VPNs\n
Bring drinks and snacks or anything else that will enhance your experience
\n\nAny further questions can be directed to Mark Flegg.\nReturn to the ma
in conference page.\n\n\nPre-uploaded content (deadline January 8th 2021)\
n\nWe will be taking the opportunity of a virtual meeting to engage as muc
h as possible using technology. To encourage casual discussion about rese
arch outside of the live presentations\, you will have the opportunity to
submit a graphical abstract and a pre-recorded version of your talk. Thes
e will be used in conjunction with your live talk to engage outside of you
r talk with attendees\, to help them decide which talks to attend and also
to reach attendees from a distribution of time zones. \nPlease upload you
 r graphical abstract and/or pre-recorded talk here!\nAll graphical abstrac
ts and pre-recorded talks must be submitted by January 8th 2021 (11:59pm A
EDT) to allow us time to integrate them into the virtual conference platfo
rm. Content not received by this deadline risks not being included in the
conference.\nFurther information abut the graphical abstracts and pre-rec
orded talks are given below. If you have logistical queries regarding the
uploading of content you can direct them to the Virtual Chair team at hel
 p+anziam@virtualchair.net.\nGraphical abstracts\nThe graphical abstracts f
orm an announcement for your talk combined with a short poster description
. Before your scheduled live talk\, the graphical abstract will be display
ed in the virtual foyer to help delegates decide which talks to attend and
after the talks the graphical abstracts are a good place to meet to carry
on further informal discussions that might arise during question time.\nH
ow will the graphical abstracts work within the virtual venue?Graphical ab
stracts are interactive objects in the virtual conference centre. At a dis
tance\, you see a small preview of the abstract. When standing next to it\
, the poster can be opened up using the interaction button ("x" on your ke
yboard) to see a full sized version on the screen. When the poster is exp
anded\, you will lose sight of your own video feed but still be able to se
e those that are standing on the rug with you. There will also be a direct
ory of graphical abstracts so that you can get a summary of the upcoming t
alks at a glance.\nFormat for graphical abstractsWhen you submit your grap
hical abstracts to be uploaded\, please keep the following in mind\n\nMake
sure the PDF you're submitting is a single page.\nWhile it can be any dim
ension\, a 16:9 or 4:3 ratio graphical abstract will display all at once w
hile a vertical graphical abstract will require scrolling up and down to s
ee all the information.\nWe will automatically create a title slide for yo
ur graphical abstract including Title and Name\, so please make sure you f
ill these out on the form correctly.\nIf you choose not to submit a graphi
cal abstract at all\, this is ok\, a default abstract will be posted in it
s place based on the text abstract that you submit through the normal regi
stration process.\nThe software that you might use to generate a graphical
abstract is a matter of personal preference but you may wish to use the s
ame software that you use to generate slides for your talk.\n\n\n\nPre-rec
orded talks\nWhen you register for a talk at ANZIAM2021\, you will be give
n a 15 minute talk which will be delivered live during our formal operatin
g hours (as you might expect of most conferences). As the timing of our fo
rmal operating hours (day time for Australia and New Zealand) will not sui
t everyone from around the world who may be joining our conference\, the o
rganisers will take care to ensure that your personal timezone is carefull
y considered when scheduling your talk. As this time might not be suitable
for everyone\, we plan to show the pre-recorded version of your talk (if
you choose to provide one) at the opposing end of the day to the time that
you are allocated (a time which will reach a different audience than that
which can attend your live talk). The recordings will play in "watch part
ies" which will work like normal seminars except that the speaker will be
a recording. You are more than welcome to attend your own pre-recorded lec
ture. There will be space for you to field questions or comment live over
the top of your recording if you wish within the venue. Please note that
a pre-recorded talk is not intended to be a substitute for a live talk.\nT
he pre-recorded option is likely to be appealing to overseas attendees who
will likely have talks scheduled at the extremes of the day or for those
wishing to get a little more exposure for their talks. \nTo pre-record you
r talk\, you may choose any recording software that you like. If you are n
ot fluent with video recording software you can usually record straight fr
om video conferencing tools like Zoom and create a good video with a share
 d screen.\nJust like your live talk\, the pre-recorded talk should be 15 m
inutes long and will be truncated if it is over 18 minutes so that we can
fit all the talks in. It should be in the .MOV or .MP4 formats and for bes
t viewing results have an aspect ratio of 16x9.\n\nReturn to the main conf
erence page.\n\n\nFAQs\n\nQ: What format should the graphical abstracts ta
ke? Classical poster? Minipaper? Infographic?\nA: The format is completely
up to you. As a graphical abstract the aim is to advertise and introduce
your talk for other attendees deciding on which talk they would like to se
 e. However\, the graphical abstracts will remain in the foyer shortly afte
r the talks and they are therefore also a good place to congregate after t
he talks for further discussions. In the latter case\, the graphical abstr
acts could be used like a classical poster\, with some key equations and f
igures to help facilitate post-talk discussions.\nQ: If I miss the deadlin
e for cooking kits (18th December) can I still join the cooking workshops?
\nA: Absolutely\, you have until the 15th of January to register for the c
ooking workshops even if you missed the deadline to have a kit sent to you
by us from Melbourne\, Australia. In this case\, you should source the in
gredients (or substitute ingredients locally). Please see the cooking wor
kshop page for a list of ingredients and suggested substitutions.\nQ: If I
am from overseas\, can I still attend the social events?\nA: Yes\, you ca
 n. You should give some care with respect to your timezone however. The co
oking classes will take place mostly during the late afternoon or evenings
AEDT to suit most Australian and New Zealand time zones. Whilst this may
be fine for a morning cook for European time zones\, US attendees might fi
nd this a challenging time. That being said\, if there are enough US atten
dees wishing to have a cooking class\, we will seek a morning session for
those interested (or contact you if this is not possible). We will not all
ocate you to an inappropriate time without first contacting you. The post-
medal event will be live and take place in the evening on Thursday 4th of
January in ADST. The WiM and Allies events will take place during the day
time in Australia and New Zealand. The student night will take place in th
e evening ADST whilst the chess tournament will be at a time that suits th
e players that have to play at each stage and is quite flexible.\nReturn t
